Vintage Hand-Carved Wooden Printing Block – Banded Trefoil Rows

Five horizontal rows of small four-pointed quatrefoil studs run across this block, each row separated by a raised flat band. The alternating structure, texture, then a clean pause, then texture again, gives the piece a deliberate, orderly rhythm that reads almost like a printed ruler or measuring tool at a glance.

This kind of banded repeat was commonly used for narrow border trims, meant to run along the edge of a garment or length of fabric as a clean, understated finish. Displayed upright, the alternating bands of texture and flat space create a satisfying, structured visual cadence.
